Teapot Inspired by Ron Nagle

Ron Nagle is a San Francisco scultptor who creates both sculptural and funtcional pieces. He contrasts color, texture, and shape. He inspired me to play around with contrasting. I decided to play around with organic and geometric forms.
This picture to the left is one of Nagle's pieces called Son of Fudge. Click on the picture to see more of Nagle's work.
My idea for my teapot was to take Nagle's use of contrasting (glazes and textures) and apply it to my teapots actual form. I decided to construct a square as the main part of the pot and a boxy spout to act as the geometric part of the teapot. I then decided to create an handle by wrapping coils around the teapot and adding a braid-like handle to the lid to give the teapot abstract components. For the glazing I wanted to make the teapot itself seem more natural using moss green spotted with iron ore and make the handle come off as more industrial by using iron ore. Then I created my cups to be abstract by using two coils slip-and-scored together in a circle form. So to tie my pot and cups together, I used iron ore surrounding moss green drips.
